Level 11 The Endless City
THE ENDLESS CITY
The Endless City includes mines, the metro, commercial districts, and the TRI complex. Conditions vary widely between areas, including the institute’s laboratories and power facilities.
Underground Mine
Underground MineThe underground mine lies beneath the city's streets and buildings, like an extraction complex that continues producing without workers. Concrete supports alternate with exposed rock, while drills, crushers, and conveyor belts run by themselves beneath dim yellow work lights. Stone travels along mine-cart rails and elevator shafts toward processing areas that cannot be seen. Deep passages join the city's drainage, power, and metro-maintenance structures, showing that this is not an isolated cavern but part of the Endless City's underground network.

Metro StationThe metro station occupies interwoven public-transit levels above the mine. Concourses, transfer corridors, and platforms continue according to the order of the city blocks. Faded route maps cling to tiled walls, turnstiles remain powered, and automated announcements recite unfamiliar station names when no train has stopped. Tunnels divide toward different districts at junctions, while maintenance passages overlap impossibly with canal culverts, drainage channels, and mine transport lines.
Open area file →Red-Light District
Red-Light DistrictThe Red-Light District occupies a part of the city that has gone without daylight for a very long time. Cheap hotels, bars, sealed entertainment venues, and narrow alleys are stained red and violet by dense neon. Wet pavement reflects the signs after rain, though no employee is ever seen replacing a tube or cleaning a window. Booths, stages, counters, and backstage corridors remain inside the buildings, and sound systems sometimes play fragments of music by themselves, like nightlife that dispersed long ago but never ended.
Open area file →Financial District
Financial DistrictThe Financial District is one of the most densely built parts of the Endless City. Banks, trading halls, and glass office towers surround broad plazas. Their façades reflect sourceless daylight, while some windows refuse to reveal anything inside, like black mirrors. Accessible buildings retain desks, filing cabinets, meeting rooms, and market displays that update continuously. Doors and windows of inaccessible buildings remain locked, and knocking on their walls returns the echo of a mass of solid rock.
Open area file →Retail Stores
Retail StoresRetail stores spread along commercial roads at the edge of the Financial District, changing from corner shops, supermarkets, and clothing stores into shopping buildings with indoor pedestrian streets. Shutters, shelves, fitting rooms, freezers, and checkout counters are mostly intact, and the lighting and refrigeration still operate. Some storefronts look identical from outside, yet their interiors extend far beyond the building outlines, while rear doors connect to city warehouses, loading alleys, and service roads.
Open area file →TRI Building - Entity Research Institute
TRI Building - Entity Research InstituteThe Entity Research Institute occupies a highly sealed laboratory sector inside the Institute building and remains under high-security control by the Institute's private army. Isolation corridors, observation rooms, surgical lamps, and reinforced doors appear in sequence, while cages, restraints, sampling equipment, and repeatedly scrubbed drains remain behind thick glass. Wall records identify subjects only by number, revealing neither what entities once occupied the empty cells nor the cause of deformations pressed outward through certain doorframes.
Open area file →TRI Building - Power Control Room
TRI Building - Power Control RoomThe Power Control Room lies on an industrial floor deep inside the Institute building. Transformers, distribution cabinets, cooling lines, and heavy cables cover the walls and maintenance platforms. Control diagrams contain far more circuits than the building itself could require, with load labels extending into the city grid and places absent from every plan. The equipment remains under high-voltage load, filling the air with ozone and hot metal, while warning lights flash in step with changes in the brightness of distant districts.
Open area file →TRI Building - Hub
TRI Building - HubThe Hub is the administrative, communications, and dispatch center of the Institute building. Reception halls, briefing rooms, archives, security checkpoints, and freight elevators converge here; personnel, samples, equipment, and data from throughout the building once passed through it. Unfiled documents remain on desks, wall screens cycle through city surveillance images and unrecognized spectra, and internal announcements continue calling departments that have already left.
