Underground Power Station

The Underground Power Station is assembled from long, dark, winding brick corridors and machine rooms. Dust coats the brown brick, gray floor tiles, and metal ceilings, while copper pipes, loose wires, and corroded control panels jut from the walls into narrow passages; some places can only be crossed crouching or sideways. Turbine halls, electrical rooms, and nameless chambers have no fixed arrangement, and rusted iron grilles can abruptly cut off a corridor. Beyond them, silhouettes resembling people are sometimes visible. The generators and heavy machinery operate by themselves without anyone at the controls. Their roar, vibration, and steadily accumulating heat make the humid air difficult to breathe. Some equipment has fallen silent, while other machines cannot be shut down and continue to leak current, overheat, or suddenly catch fire beneath dim emergency lights. Black slime moving through pipes along the walls also releases toxic, caustic fumes. No one knows where these machines send their power; all that can be confirmed is that the entire underground complex continues to consume an inexhaustible source of energy.
